Description

Individuals and establishments may submit their requests to the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior (MOI) to swap plate numbers, whether normal or significant, of one or two vehicles. The General Directorate then reviews the applications and takes the necessary decision.

Online Instructions

• Login with your smartcard to the MOI e-services portal.
• Click on “Traffic Services” then “Vehicles” then “Swap Vehicle Plate Number”.
• Use “Service Option” page to select the required swap option from the available options, namely swapping a plate number or swapping a plate number between two vehicles.
• In case of selecting “Swap Plate Number”: the service displays two options, namely “Swap Standard Plate Number” and “Swap Significant Plate Number”.
• In case of selecting “Swap Standard Plate Number”: Enter standard plate number and select vehicle type (e.g. private vehicle, government vehicle, taxi), then enter the significant plate details by entering the significant plate number and selecting the vehicle type, then it is possible to select the plate shape.
• In case of selecting “Swap Significant Plate Number”: Enter significant plate number and select vehicle type (e.g. private vehicle, government vehicle, taxi), then it is optional to enter significant/standard plate details by entering plate number and selecting vehicle type, and it is possible afterwards to select the plate shape.
• In case of selecting “Swap Plate between Two Vehicles”: Enter first plate details by entering vehicle plate and selecting vehicle type (e.g. private vehicle, government vehicle, taxi), then enter second plate details by entering plate number and selecting vehicle type, and it is possible afterwards to select the plate shape.
• Click on “Next” to move to the “Payment” page, where the system displays plate number details and applicable fees.
• Click on “Pay” so that the system displays a bank screen for paying applicable fines using a credit/debit card or via direct bank transfer (in case of establishments only).

• The user shall own a smart card to use the service.
• This service can be obtained at any time.
• This service is also available via Metrash2.

A fee of QR300 applies.
