Description

Individuals and businesses may submit a request to the Intellectual Property Protection Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) to oppose the registration of a trademark.

Offline Instructions

  • Download and fill out the paper form, then print it out and submit it to MOCI or any of its branches.
  • Attach Opposition Hearing Scheduling Application after it is downloaded, filled out and printed, in addition to the supporting documents proving opposition.
  • Pay appropriate fees.

A fee of QR1000 applies.

Additional Information

  • A request to oppose the registration of a trademark shall be submitted within four months from the date of announcing the approval of the trademark in the newspaper.
  • After fees are paid and request is received, the trademark registration applicant is notified about the opposition to provide a written reply within two months or, otherwise, the request is deemed waived.
  • After that, a hearing is scheduled to listen to both parties and, accordingly, the Industrial Property Protection Office decides to either accept or reject the opposition.
