Under the honorable patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, year-long activities of "Doha Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021" under slogan "our culture is enlightenment" will kick off on 8 March 2021.

The activities will be held under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and the strategic partners in the State. These partners are the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Qatar Museums and the Cultural Village
Foundation (Katara).

ICESCO has selected Doha to be the Capital of Culture in the Islamic World for the year 2021 given its ancient history and legacy, the civilizational components and landmarks in the State of Qatar that reflect the Islamic character.

Doha's hosting of this Islamic event also promotes the bonds of friendship and respect between the State of Qatar and countries of the world, particularly the Islamic world, and based on the fact that Doha is regarded as a venue for dialogue, cultures and openness to civilizations. In other words, this constitutes an opportunity to highlight the State's cultural diversity and historic monuments, and the human values of the State of Qatar's culture and its ancient history.
