Qatar Central Bank (QCB) unveiled the fifth issue of the Qatari currency (the Qatari Riyal) into circulation, in denominations of "1, 5, 10, 100, and 500 riyals," and issuance of new QR200 banknote for the first time. That came during a news conference held at the QCB headquarters yesterday, Sunday, 13 December 2020, coinciding with the celebrations of Qatar National Day, on Friday, 18 December 2020.
QCB also unveiled plans for a particular currency during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which would be issued at the time of the tournament.
Mr. Mohammed Jassim Al Kuwari, executive director of Public Debt, Banking and Sector and Currency Issue Sector, QCB, spoke about security features to the new banknotes.
Mr. Al Kuwari also emphasized that the banknotes circulated during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis and coming from the banks have been damaged, and QCB clarified that that the volume of funds that would be available would amount to QR20 billion.
