Dr. Soha Al Bayat, Head of Vaccination at the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), has disclosed that people aged below 50 years will be included soon within the National COVID-19 (the novel Coronavirus) Vaccination Program.

Dr. Al Bayat said that moving to the next age category of those aged below 50 years is conditional upon the fact that the number of people who have received the vaccine among the category of those above 50 years will exceed the 50% percent until moving to the next category. She pointed out that the categories will be expanded gradually and everyone will be provided with vaccination soon.

She added: "We have exceeded 750 thousand doses that have been provided from the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, since the number of doses exceeds 20 thousand doses daily. In one week, the number of doses exceeds 140 thousand doses." As regards the age categories of people below 16 years, she said: "The youngest age eligible for receiving the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is 16 years. Moreover, final studies are being conducted in order to approve the vaccination of ages (12-16 years), since the phase of the trials has been completed. In addition, clinical trials for the age category (5-12 years) are underway."
