About

In recognition of the International Day of Older Persons, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has launched a new website for the elderly on the internet. The website, which can be accessed through the homepage of HMC’s website, includes information and advice for the elderly on healthy aging. The website, which is the first of its kind in the State of Qatar, is intended to be a trusted source for up-to-date information and advice on health and ageing.

In this regard, Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, National Lead for Healthy Ageing and medical Director of Rumailah Hospital and Qatar Rehabilitation Institute (QRI), indicated that the increasing need for health care services for the elderly requires strengthening the application of preventive measures and measures that would provide support for this segment of the population. The National Health Strategy (2018-2020) emphasized healthy aging and the need to create appropriate conditions that allow for an increase in the active and effective life span of the elderly and ensure that they enjoy healthy aging and normal life conditions.

The United Nations statistics indicate that the number of elderly people who aged 65 in various countries of the world in 2019 reached 703 million people, and that this number is expected to increase at a rate of doubling over the next three decades to reach about one and a half billion people by the year 2050. The year 2020 is the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons, which is celebrated on the first of October every year.
