Mr. Mohammed Ali Al Mannai, President of Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), has stated that the telecommunications sector in the State of Qatar has demonstrated great technical and business capacity in dealing with the repercussions of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. He added that the sector, with all its components, has successfully managed to keep pace with the changes imposed by the current conditions.
Mr. Al Mannai also said that since the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its associated exceptional conditions, the CRA’s priority has been on ensuring the continuity of the telecommunication network in technical and business aspects. He added that this was crucial to keep essential services running without affecting the quality of service provided for consumers, who have continued to benefit from the best possible quality of service and affordable price. In addition, measures have been taken to maintain the health of employees relevant for ensuring the continuing work.
The CRA President said that the CRA is currently working on setting up a regulatory framework regarding the quality of the service of communications. He explained that in January 2020, the CRA published a public consultation to receive views and comments from stakeholders (consumers and telecom service providers), on the draft of this new regulatory framework, including details related to measurement methodologies on the quality of the service and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) which are in line with best practices and international standards.
