Cabinet Approves Draft Law on the Protection of Trademarks Related to FIFA

HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, chaired the regular meeting held by the Cabinet yesterday evening, via videoconferencing. 

At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet was briefed by HE the Minister of Public Health on the latest developments to curb the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), and has affirmed the continuation of the precautionary measures in force to combat such pandemic. 

After that, the Council decided the following: 
  • Approving a draft law on the protection of trademarks, copyrights and rights related to the International Football Association (FIFA), and referring it to the Shura Council. Among the provisions contained in the draft law are requiring the registration of FIFA trademarks, the submission of works, audio recordings, performances of artistes and FIFA radio programs with the office, at the request of FIFA or its representative for this purpose. Moreover, the power of attorney must be notarized.
  • Approving a draft decision of HE the Minister of Justice to rename the chairperson and members of the Committee of Experts Affairs, and to define its system of work and remunerations.
