More than 1 million people worldwide have come to Qatar to watch the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ matches. For some of those guests, this was their first experience with Arabic or Islamic culture. Therefore, they were amazed by how kind and hospitable the people in Qatar were. Many tourists expressed their admiration for the Qatari culture on social media platforms and invited others to join them in the World Cup.
A report in Al Sharq newspaper mentioned that the famous football player Mesut Ozil said in a tweet on his official Twitter account that it was great to be in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. He praised the country for its great hospitality and organization of this mega tournament.
Another report in Gulf Times newspaper mentioned that as part of Qatar's hospitality, many Qataris opened their camps and majlis to World Cup fans to inform them about Arab values, customs, traditions, and cultural heritage.
On top of that, many videos that showed how welcoming the locals were went viral on the internet. Those videos showed Qatari citizens and police officers helping tourists wear the local clothes properly, and many of those tourists were happily embracing the culture and learning about it.
Miguel and Ilena, a husband and wife from Argentina visiting Qatar for the first time, said to Hukoomi Portal Content Team in an interview at Souq Waqif that everything in the country was new to them. They added that they enjoyed their time and that Qatar and its culture were fantastic.
On the other hand, Paola from Mexico, who came to attend the World Cup in Qatar with her family, mentioned that the people were very kind and that whenever they asked her where she was from, they warmly welcomed her when they knew she was from Mexico. She also pointed out that some media sources portrayed Qatar differently from what she experienced.
Hospitality is one of the main characteristics of the culture in Qatar. Qataris are well-known for being very hospitable and welcoming to people from all over the world. This characteristic comes from the Islamic background of the country, which considers hospitality a fundamental value. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him be hospitable to his guest." Therefore, hospitality is a deeply rooted value in the Qatari culture.
